Please join us on Thursday, April 26, at 5:30 pm, in the HSAC cafeteria, to learn about
everything that the Class of 2019 Junior Council (soon to be the Senior Council!) is doing for
graduation. Due to the logistics of graduation and lack of funding, every student must help to
pay for the graduation ceremony event.

As the year draws to an end, we are running low on supplies to help your students stay focused and productive in the classroom.  One of the items we are currently in need of is tissues for the classrooms.  Please consider assisting us with this, as it is allergy season and the need is great, by donating boxes of tissues.  These can be sent with your student, or dropped by you at our front office.

We would like to invite all 5th grade students’ parents for an informational night. We will pass out schedules and answer questions.Event: 5th Grade Parent Night

Date: 4/27/2018

Time: 6-7 pm

Location: HSA-Carrollton Cafeteria

Thanks,

This past Saturday, 04/07/18, we held our First Annual STEAM Festival (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics!) here at H.S.A. Carrollton! We had our biggest turnout ever for a STEM Fair, and our students, faculty, and parents all had a great time. Our interesting STEAM-oriented exhibits in Chemistry, Physics/Engineering, Biology/Biomedical, and Robotics all had visually interesting displays, we had our usual pyrotechnics (both planned and, shall we say, surprising!), the Biomedical section impressed everyone, and the latest robots and drones were a big hit with everyone. The Food Festival did very well, everyone had plenty to eat, and our student organizations succeeded well with fund raising. And, for a first-time-ever tradition, we had two performing arts events on-stage with the Harmony Voices and the Middle School Drama Club! Our heart-felt thanks to everyone who came out, it was a great time for all, and we are already planning on the STEAM Festival 2019!!

See you NEXT TIME!

Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Initiative (T-STEM)

Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies are rigorous secondary schools focusing on improving instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects and increasing the number of students who study and enter STEM careers. T-STEM Academies are demonstration schools and learning labs that develop innovative methods to improve science and mathematics instructions.

Prior to the 2011-2012 school year, the only path to become a T-STEM Academy was a T-STEM Academy grant through the Texas Education Agency or one of the private partners in the Texas High School Project.

Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, a second pathway was created. Campuses, using local or other sources of funding, that are implementing the T-STEM Design Blueprint with fidelity may apply to be designated as a T-STEM Academy. T-STEM campuses are designated based on a rigorous designation process. Once a campus is designated, professional development and technical assistance are provided to designated T-STEM academies to serve as demonstration schools and learning labs to showcase innovative instruction methods which integrate technology and engineering into science and mathematics instruction. Designated T-STEM campuses serve students in grades 6-12 or 9-12.

The Ivy League Trip was an excellent mix of information and fun. Every student who attended the trip now has a wealth of knowledge regarding the Ivy League system, including the inside scoop of what the admission officers there are looking for in a student, as well as the unique cultures that permeate each campus. Additionally, students were able to see amazing sights like the Statue of Liberty from the ferry and night-time Manhattan from the top of the Empire State Building. Students were exposed to art through the ages at Princeton’s exceptional art museum and learned about the events of September 11th in a new, far more personal way at the museum at Ground Zero. This trip provided a multitude of new experiences for these students, including some truly magical moments like walking around Harvard and MIT as it snowed and watching street performers at Times Square. It was an unforgettable trip!
