Drone Competition

Grade Level: 6th-12th
Purpose: Presented in partnership with FTW Robotics and Rice University, HPS Drone Race is the perfect event offering elementary, middle school and high school students an opportunity to get hands-on experience in STEM education in the form of an affordable, fast-paced game.
FTC Robotics

Grade Level: 7th-12th
Purpose: FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16* through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together.
HOSA

Meetings: Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Grade Level: 6th-12th
Purpose: HOSA offers 58 competitive events, ranging from skill-based to leadership and team-based. The event groups are as follows: Health science, health professions, leadership, and recognition events. Members compete at the regional, state, and international levels. Those who place in the top three positions at the state level are given the opportunity to compete at the international level.
Middle School Math Club
Sponsor/Advisor: Math Teachers
Requirements: $50
Meetings: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Grade Level: 6th-8th
Purpose:
- Math Club only open to MS students (grades 6-8) and is an enrichment opportunity for students who excel and/or are interested in high level math.
- Solid mental math and logical thinking skills are required - students will need to complete a screening test to gauge suitability for the club.
- In Semester 2, all Math Club students will compete in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 8, and the school MathCounts team will be selected from the members to represent the school at UT Dallas.
- Meets on Tuesday & Thursday each week and both sessions are mandatory.
- Students may be offered community engagement opportunities to help elementary grade level students at HSI with math.
National History Day

Requirements: $50
Meetings: Mondays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Grade Level: 6th-12th
Purpose: The annual theme is usually a phrase ending with "in history" and is often an alliteration, such as, "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History." The theme frames students’ research within a historical theme. The theme is chosen for the broad application to world, national, or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past.

Purpose:
Service Leadership Society (SLS) is a club for students to explore meaningful public policy topics, conduct research, form opinions, and develop a “bill” to address the selected public policy issue. Throughout the bill design process, students will learn the intricacies of Texas’ legislative process including how a bill becomes law. During the year, SLS clubs gather for a state conference to present bill drafts to their peers and have the opportunity to debate and vote on all bills.
